Four schools participated with a total of six solar Gokarts entering the challenge. The challenge was to run for two hours in the sun to get in the most laps. There were many parameters each team must follow, and there were some areas for creativity. This year’s teams made great improvements and the top team finished the race with 74 laps! The top three finalists were: 1st place - Unicoi County High School 2nd place - Washington Co. CTE Center 3rd place - Sullivan East High School 4th place - Clinch School Congratulations to all!

Mr. Casteel took the competition go-kart for a test drive with students in the Gifted Program at Glade Spring Middle School! In addition to demonstrating the go-karts in action, he talked with students about his Engineering course and other courses that will be available to them at the Career and Technical Education Center. GSMS Principal Scott Keith definitely enjoyed driving the go-kart! Good luck to Mr. Casteel and his team as they compete on Monday!

Heating/Cooling Update: During this transition time in Spring, it is always difficult to determine when to "switch over" the heat to air conditioning. Once the switch is made, it is very difficult and time consuming to switch back. Therefore, we try to determine the most effective time to make that switch. After consultation with school administrators and staff it was decided to begin the process. All the schools with boilers have the heat turned off and the process of switching over has begun. The schools with cooling towers will be able to have air as soon as the process of cleaning the towers is complete. This process is anticipated to be completed by early next week. Thank you for your understanding, WCPS Schools

We're making waves today! Students in Mrs. Smith's Career Strategies class built and tested their boats. Students were given 2 plastic cups, 10 plastic straws, 12" of plastic wrap, and 12" of duct tape to create their boats. Boats were tested using 1/2" washers for weight. All boats held 20 washers before sinking!
