Students in Drafting I have received their very own tool kits. These kits are packed with everything they need to learn the fundamentals of on-the-board drafting and will use these tools for creating proper technical drawings.

🪚 WCCTEC Carpentry students built two custom patio chairs to support the Kirk Edward Narin Memorial Scholarship Foundation’s silent auction. Proud to see our students using their skills to give back!

🧥✨ It’s that time again—our Annual Coat Drive is here! ✨🧥
From September 8th–26th, we’re collecting new and gently used coats, hoodies, gloves, scarves, socks, and boots to help keep our community warm this winter. Every donation makes a difference!
📍 Drop-off location: 255 Stanley Street Abingdon VA 24210
❤️ Thank you for helping us spread warmth!

💇♀️✂️ Future stylists in action! Our Cosmetology students got a special visit from Robby Goodman with Pretty in a Minute, who gave a hands-on demo of professional salon tools and techniques. Learning from industry experts gives our students the confidence and skills to shine in their future careers! 🌟

👩🍳❤️🩺 Our Culinary Arts students are now CPR certified!
Working in commercial kitchens can be high-risk, with potential for choking, burns, electrocution, and other emergencies. By earning this certification, our future chefs are prepared to respond quickly and provide lifesaving care when it matters most.
Another great example of safety and professionalism being built into every recipe for success at WCCTEC! 🍽️👏

💪 From the classroom to the sidelines!
WCCTEC Sports Medicine student Lauren H. put her skills into action last night through Work-Based Learning—prepping pre-game communication, evaluating athletes during timeouts, and of course, taping up student athletes to keep them game-ready. 🏈👏

Our Teachers for Tomorrow students collaborated with the school counselor to design a bulletin board that highlights our programs. This project gave them the opportunity to apply their creative skills in design, organization, and communication—while also showcasing the value of teamwork in education.

🔥 Big shoutout to Welding III students Kendon K. and Aaden S.! Under the guidance of Mr. McClure, these two built a brand-new table for the oxy-fuel cutting station in the welding shop. Adulting 101: Students in Ms. Litton's Career Strategies class tackled lots of tasks that will be required of them when they become adults (and are also great skills to possess now)! They learned to iron, fold a shirt, write a thank you note, address an envelope, give a firm handshake, and tie a tie. (Thanks, Mr. Roark!)

👩⚕️👨⚕️ WCCTEC Nurse Aide students are building their healthcare skills! This week they practiced donning & removing PPE and learned how to make a closed bed—two fundamentals that prepare them for success in patient care. 💉🩺

Early Childhood Education class got popped with creativity today! 🍓✨
Students designed personified Pop-Tarts of teachers—complete with grade, school, subject, and the sweet qualities that make them AMAZING. 💙

🚧 Hands-On Learning at WCCTEC! 👷♂️👷♀️
Our Masonry 3 class recently took on a real-world project: measuring, grading, and pouring a concrete slab for the Welding Shop! 🔨 This new slab will soon hold an outdoor welding booth, giving students the chance to practice outdoor welding and tackle larger projects that won’t fit inside the shop.
To make it happen, students worked under the CTE Work-Based Learning
program with assigned roles just like a professional jobsite:
• Foreman: Colton F
• Estimator: Dalton A (who also brought in skills from his Data Analysis Math class!)
• Crew Members: Clayton C, Levi B, Brayden P, and Dakota S
While Colton and Dalton calculated materials and labor needs, the rest of the crew cut asphalt and cleared debris. After approval, the team poured and finished the slab on Monday, August 25, 2025—meeting the same standards as any construction site.
A big thank-you to Masonry Instructor Johnny Blevins for supervising and to Mr. Gene Greer’s Carpentry class for lending a hand. Teamwork makes the dream work at WCCTEC! 🙌

For Your Information:
As many of you are aware, the Town of Abingdon’s ongoing Sanitary Sewer Project on East Valley Street and Walden Road will continue into the start of the school year. While the first days back can always feel a little hectic, this construction project may make an already busy time more challenging for some.
We want you to know that we have been working closely with the Town of Abingdon, Abingdon Police Department, and Abingdon Fire Department to help ensure traffic flows as smoothly and safely as possible during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
Schools Impacted:
*E.B. Stanley Middle School
*Abingdon High School
*Washington County Career & Technical Education Center
Traffic Control Support: To assist with traffic management, additional police and fire personnel will be stationed at several key intersections during these times.
*Stanley Street and Thompson Drive
*Boone Street and Main Street
*Tanner Street and Main Street (Morning)
*Tanner Street and Valley Street (Afternoon)
*Pecan Street and Main Street (Traffic will be controlled by the light)
Important Notes:
*If you’re leaving E.B. Stanley Middle School, we recommend avoiding a right turn onto Stanley Street, due to increased congestion. For those of you heading toward East Abingdon, Baugh Lane may be an easier option.
*For all schools, arriving earlier than usual will help ease traffic and reduce stress.
*Please exercise patience and caution as everyone adjusts to the changes.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we navigate these necessary improvements to the Town of Abingdon’s infrastructure. With your help, we’re confident we can ensure a safe and efficient start to the school year for all students.
