Students participate in a game outside.

On Friday, September 8, the Washington County Career and Technical Education Center hosted the annual Shop Wars! During this competition, students must work with the members of their program to complete a variety of challenges, including lots of physical challenges like Cornhole, the Tire Relay, and the Bedpan Tootsie Roll toss, as well as mental challenges like Logo Mojo. Some areas required students to work together to complete a task, while other areas scored each competitor separately and tallied the individual scores for a team score. The main goal was team building among members of each shop, a key component for these students who will be working together for the rest of the school year.

Every person at the WCCTEC was involved in some way, providing a station for the competition; prepping, serving, and cleaning up the food which was provided by Food City; or monitoring and directing the competition. A special thanks goes to Ms. Nyana Malone, who coordinates this event each year. The winners for this year’s AM Shop Wars were as follows: third place, Mr. Greer’s Carpentry Shop; second place, Mr. Burress’s Autobody Shop; and first place, with a prize of breakfast, Mr. Ellis’s Building Trades Shop! Winning the PM Shop Wars were as follows: third place, Mr. Clark’s Auto Service Shop; second place, Mr. McClure’s Welding Shop; and first place, with a prize of a pizza party, Mr. Marousek’s Welding Shop!
